shopping and more home updates

This weekend was very productive in that I got alot of house updates done and i got to go to the san antonio outlet malls...droool. I wasn't able to buy everything i wanted but i did find my future light fixtures for the kitchen and bathroom. luckily i can order it online here... this company has some very nice lighting...and no i don't mean the texas star stuff. I can only take so much of that. anyhoo the target of this weekend updates were the bathrooms. I got new mirrors and the bases got painted. they're coming together very nicely and i will paint the bases soon.

Here's the small bathroom:

the big bathroom:

the refurbished armoir no longer a washed out yellow. I replaced the backing with new white beadboard as well.

This is my new hall light fixture. I can't wait til I have all of the new stuff in place. it's just gonna take time.

coming this week: Carlos is coming back to retexture the icky parts of my kitchen walls. Mainly some idiot tried to do it themselves...no it wasn't me but the idiot who lived there before me.

Last but not least: a gratuitous puppy pic:

weekend of painting fury

This weekend consisted of large amounts of white and chocolate brown paint along with a ruined set of acrylic nails. Key word here ladies and gentlemints...always sand before you paint. I got the craigslist armoir painted a pretty white and now it's all purty with a new beadboard backing. I'm very happy I chose the pre-painted kind. My hands were killing me after awhile. I still have the basecoves to do on the bathroom cabinets, but that requires patience that I didn't have and will have to try again later in the week. I've become quite attched to my new powertools though. This could get to be a dangerous habit installing and fixing things on my own. I will not touch the lighting fixtures though...painful memories of being shocked when I was little. *shudder*. I decided on Sunday I had to get the nails redone though as I had to meet with a new freelance client. I don't know why I even try to do the hair thing though as the humidity pretty much ruins my hair in 2 minutes. The bathrooms are starting to look very cool though. It's aggravating though that the more I improve things the more I want to improve the things I though were ok at first. Like now I think I need new bathroom accessories to perfectly match the cute shelf I got for each bathroom. They were ok before, but now....ew. and the floor. I've become obsessed with my floor. I want to totally rip out the carpet downstairs and replace it with pretty wood laminate. I've even gon so far as to get an estimate which was not so good but I know a guy who might be able to help. I'll post pics later

No more Mystery meat and government cheese??

Ok, this is just a little too much. This company in California Bay Area of course, is providing a school lunch service for kids.  That's right they can even include a love note from mom lovingly written by a stranger who prepared the food. That's bonding for you. I can see parents not trusting the state to feed their kids with a healthy meal...as they drive by Mickey D's on the way home and after all isn't educating them difficult enough? This has to be aimed at posh private schools but then they wouldn't send their kids to public school anyway. so many things are just wrong about this.

*sigh* Dandelion Break

Well, today just kinda bit the big one. But as the saying goes, sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you...that bear kicked my ass today. It seems no matter what I did it wasn't good enough or somebody was just irritated that I haven't dropped everything to cater to them. At the moment, I'm watching "Weird Science" which is making me quite nostalgic although I can't explain why. John Hughes just had a way of making life funny. anyway, i'm off to bed and end this day finally.

Real advertising

I think I'm just really talkative today....Just found this on Cherryflava and I love this kind of advertising

apparently it's for the cartoon network. Now how exactly are kids supposed to learn manners ... hehehe

Actually Hell is other People

I just read an interesting article that actually made me feel pretty good about myself. It was titled "Actually, hell is other people" you may have to go through some advertising to get to it though. It's basically about how american's are becoming loners. and that some people prefer little or no close friends. I'm actually relieved that I'm not the only one feeling this way. For such a long time I felt that there was something wrong with me that I just didn't make the effort to make friends and even when I did I ended up getting stabbed in the back. where's the benefit in having so many friends you can't focus or you're too busy dealing with them you can't focus on your own life? I think I understand when kevin kept saying he was ok with the sidekick persona with friends that i tried so hard to to get away from as it seemed to be the position I always fell into as a kid because of lack of confidence. and now that i've gotten a little more confident, I can't look at those people in the same way. I've outgrown them. But the sidekick thing may actually be a smarter place to be as you have the luxury of saying you have friends (but truly are the divas ever gonna really be there for you?) but you can drop off the earth for awhile whenever you decide that you prefer your own company after awhile. interesting.

Anointed Legos

I discovered this somehow yesterday and just cracked up. This real reverend has been using legos to illustrate the bible for kids or people who just don't like to read. Absolutely hilarious. check it out...The Brick Testament

love thy neighbor

This little note was posted outside today. I have to say..it's a little unnecessary to cuss at people. I mean little kids are most likely going to see that. It's not like the guy has to mow the lawn either. My dogs in particular have had a little drop near this guy's house but mostly they prefer the edges of the complex. anyhoo, this note isn't exactly going to win you friends either. Other than the sarcasm i say if he loves it so much we should give it to him....everyday.

schnauzerfest - 2006

this weekend was pretty productive. I'm really attempting to balance life...key word here..attempt. Anyhoo, The girls and I went over to Glen's house to help set up for a garage sale. See Glen's Blog here. Glen has 3 schnauzaers so it was thought that the dogs would play in the back yard while we set up the sale. Maisy clashed a bit with Jasmine who is queen diva schnauzer of glen's house. Maisy eventually wouldn't be quiet unless she was sitting in my arms. this hindered my ability to help after awhile. It was good to catch up a little with Glen after so long, but it also caused a little melancholy on my part as there's still some issues I have towards some of the people we both know. I'm resolving though that they aren't worth dwelling on though. I've recognized my anger and will use the energy in a positive manner as I've done quite well so far. I'm quite proud of the work I've done in the past 9 months, but I also need to learn to be a little more social no matter how much i've been screwed over by bad people. They can't all be bad. I do hope to hang out with glen again soon. He's an awesome individual who has managed to be a very positive person. and can deal well with those who've hurt him in the past. I'm still dealing with it (yes still. but really much better at focusing the the disgust i feel). I'm finding that i'm using work in some ways to escape from having to socialize but I figure at least it's getting my house redone and looking awesome. I really should start working on myself as well. Glen took pictures during the time I was there. I'm pretty self conscious about having my picture taken. Low self-esteem I guess. That and having gained some weight isn't exactly getting me running in front of a camera. But frankly, I need to just face my fear.

The rest of the weekend consisted of me finally steam cleaning my carpet in my house and designing a new look for Randy's top secret project. I hope he likes it. Alexi decided to take pictures of the girls as well...

Maisy has taken to batting her eyes...her groomer left her eyelashes long. I rather like her haircut this way. she's very ladylike.

Mia's all..."You talkin' to me?"

Everybody, everybody, everybody wants to be a cat...

Mia's daily pillow inspection.

Don't Ping my Cheese with your bandwidth...

Oh lord today's Dilbert rocked. However the consultant should have been called a marketing manager since all they possess is a variable barrage of meaningless buzzwords.

UPDATE: Due to the numerous complaints (one. Hey, one's a number...) I must clarify that in no way was I referring to the exemplary body of work that is created by Tradeshow managers.  It is an honor to be in their presence and they would NEVER use words like "leverage" or "bandwidth". To those I have offended (Jeri) I am truly apologetic....(snark)

Must love mini-schnauzers...who think they're people

The organization of the office was a 90% success. Meaning the closets are gorgeous (i.e. no more cardboard boxes!) and the floor is very clean. The room looks alot bigger and the paper piles have either been filed or thrown away. *whew* what's actually left is the desk top and the top of the filing cabinet....did I mention how clean the floor was? Maisy and Mia were very good during the massive billing sort and shred...not one statement was harmed by a schnauzer during the entire process. I think because the shredder scared them...they actually napped through the whole process. as a bonus i went through my book shelves and managed to weed out old programming books that i KNOW will never be used by me again...at half price books though it's always a pretty much trading of merchandise as I found an exercise DVD and a puppet for the girls. Maybe the exercise dvd will actually make it to the dvd player. I'm becoming quite aware of the fact that I need to exercise more...especially when the emotional wear sets in and you  find yourself yelling at an IM avatar because you really can't express yourself to the individual behind that avatar...but you KNOW they're there so it's makes you feel a little better. However, exercise would free me from feeling like i need to even bother. the rest of the weekend consisted of assembling invites...I'd show you but I can't just yet for reasons I will divuge later. I'm pretty excited though. and paint!!! I bought paint!!!! to paint my bathroom cabinets! What a wild weekend eh? I do love my house more and more though....Smile

cleaning and documentaries

This weekend will be one of many in a vain attempt to clean and organize my house....i'm still not unpacked from moving back here. It's not like one of those subconcious things either. I'm just too busy with freelance work. I've managed to get the big stuff done for the most part but now i have no excuse.

I did start the learning process of figuring out .net nuke though and I have to say ...it's soooo cool. i will hopefully have my lovely personal project up and running in no time. but I promised the dogs i'd clean first.

On a personal rant as someone who listens to TV while cleaning....are the viagra commercials really necessary? I mean don't we all get enough spam on that stuff already? also...uh IHOP? funnel cake is not a breakfast food....

a new cool site...ok new to me

I discovered this site today. I don't really remember how though, but that's the beauty of the internet now isn't it. Life accelerated. I remember as a kid trying to get lost in the winding streets of suburbia looking/hoping for something different. (there is none in suburbia) but I think the internet gives me the same feeling of the hunt so to speak. you never know what you'll see next. Today I found my alter ego:

a total space cadet right out of 1958. Seriously, it's a site specializing in the 50's called Plan59 . Their art is available for viewing purchasing prints and even for use in publications. Very cool.

In other news....yes about DivX again....they seem to be quite the busy bees lately...(did I really say that? what am I 80?) They just launched an alpha site called stage 6. It looks very promising. Again, methinks I need a video camera. my dogs could have their very own channel! :)

Two shameless plugs in one entry

It's a small world after all...I'm starting to see the weaving of the world and how we all interact. My former employer whom I will still plug as me gots stock and I actually think the product is very cool. That many Europeans can't be wrong. Americans can be slow to adopt sometimes. Anyhoo, Lately, DivX is attempting to be a better YouTube/mySpace by creating a community of vloggers. The cool thing is though is they're creating content too and getting involved with the REAL community of San Diego and things in California. I find this admirable and thinking of getting me an inexpensive camera to play with.... as they have an embedded web codec too...me thinks I will be posting boring videos of my dogs soon. (oh boy) jk

Part of their coverage of ComicCon included YES an alumni of the Viz Lab Rueben DeLuna who is a wonderful artist trying to get paid to do what he does best. I'm thinking the 3D aspect of visual effects didn't do it for him either. It's interesting though that all of his comrades at his online comics company Lunar Comics all have intentions or are in the VizLab too. I wonder if this comes from A&M lacking any real art programs that people feel they have to go into this grad program to get any kind of art help. Sad...but part of me thinks they would do fine without spending the 50k or more as they're already very talented.

More power to you guys. Cool
